When a brand name becomes a generic term
Some brands are so strong that they give a name to the whole category. This is exactly what happened to Google. Today google is not only a name of the biggest search engine but also a verb added to the Merriam-Webster Collegiate Dictionary. We google everything: people, brands, products. Somebody would perceive it as a great accomplishment but actually it is not. When a product name becomes a generic term, a brand loses its uniqueness.
